Manfred Bortenschlager
Talk:bada: The Next Wave
Manfred Bortenschlager is engineering manager at the Samsung Electronics Research Institute in Staines, UK. As platform evangelist lead he coordinates the activities to position and promote Samsung’s new mobile phone platform and ecosystem bada. These activities comprise R&D projects, organising and presenting at events such as developer days, and creating training material such as demo code, tutorials, blog posts, videos or the recently published “Introduction to bada” book.

Before that, Manfred has been working in applied research of mobile and location based services at Salzburg Research, an Austrian research organisation, for over 7 years. His main research was in the domain of Pervasive Computing where he focused on Coordination Middleware for Pervasive Environments. He established and managed the MobilityLab Sun Center-of-Excellence on LBS. He was leading several national and international research projects and could publish 40 scientific articles.

Manfred holds a PhD in Computer Science and a MSc in Telecommunications Engineering.

Tomi Ahonen

Mr Tomi T. Ahonen is the author of nine bestselling books on mobile. Translated into several languages, he is the father of numerous industry tools, theories and concepts, and already referenced in over 90 books by other authors. Mr Ahonen has been quoted in over 350 press articles from Wall Street Journal, Business Week, the Economist and Financial Times on, and seen often on TV on all six inhabited continents. He lectures twice per year at Oxford University’s short courses on digital convergence and next generation telecoms and he has presented papers at over 250 conferences in 40 countries on six continents. Before starting his own consulting company in 2001, Tomi Ahonen was the Global Head of Business Consultancy for Nokia. Before that he worked for Elisa and Finnet Group in Finland, and started his technology career on Manhattan at one of the world’s first internet service providers, OCSNY. Mr Ahonen’s accomplishments include creating the world’s first fixed-mobile service bundle; setting the world record for taking market share from the incumbent; and creating the world’s largest billing system covering 45 independent telecoms operators.

Tomi’s six hardcover books are Mobile as 7th of the Mass Media (2008), Digital Korea (with O’Reilly, 2007), Communities Dominate Brands (with Moore, 2005), 3G Marketing (with Kasper & Melkko, 2004), m-Profits (2002) and Services for UMTS (with Barrett 2002). He has also authored three eBooks: the Tomi Ahonen Almanac; Pearls Vol 1:Mobile Advertising; and Pearls Vol 2: Mobile Social Networking. Ilkka Paananen

Ilkka has more than ten years of experience in start-ups, managing growth and international expansion, as well as fund raising and exits. He was the founding CEO of Sumea, and grew it become one of the top developers and publishers of mobile games, with a massive distribution network of over 100 channels that included every major European carrier. Based on Sumea’s leadership position in Europe, Ilkka and the company’s founders sold Sumea to Digital Chocolate in2004. After the merger, Ilkka served as the Managing Director of the European operations for two years before being promoted to President of Studios to lead the global publishing operations of the company, which consisted of the studios in Helsinki, Barcelona and Silicon Valley. Most recently Ilkka was promoted to President, and was responsible the product business of Digital Chocolate globally. Ilkka left Digital Chocolate in 2010 and is currently a Partner & EIR at Lifeline Ventures (www.lifelineventures.com), an early stage investor and accelerator working closely with many of the leading Finnish startups. Ilkka has graduated from the Department of Industrial Management at Helsinki University of Technology.

Attila Csipa
Talk:Introduction to mobile development using QtQuick

He is an expert in software engineering, with a degree in electrical
engineering and over 10 years of experience of software and hardware
development for embedded devices. He has been developing Qt applications for
just as many years even prior to his current role at Nokia, including program
management of Qt based applications for Adobe products. Beside his strong
software background, he is also heavily involved in the creation and
development of developer communities. His current focus is providing expertise
and improving developer experiences on Nokia platforms.

Mika Okkola
Talk:Windows Phone 7 – A different kind of phone

Mika Okkola joined Microsoft in 2004 and is currently the Developer and Platform Evangelism Lead at Microsoft Finland. He has worked in ICT business since 1984. During his career he has been involved with sales, marketing, professional services, consultancy and IT security. In addition to business roles, he has also worked with people and competence development. He has a special interest in organizational development, and digital working environments. Prior to Microsoft he has held several executive positions, most recently at Quartal, Defcom, and WM‐data. Mika Okkola holds an MBA from Jyväskylä University.

Juha Liukkonen
Talk:Efficient architecture independent apps using Python and QML

Juha Liukkonen is Technology Chief in the mobile and embedded area at Symbio. As a widely renowned and experienced systems architect he has worked with embedded solutions from various Linux systems to Symbian and to bare hardware. Juha’s latest focus area has been MeeGo, which he has been working with since its inception in early 2010.

Prior to Symbio, Juha was CTO of Cubical Solutions, an open source focused solution provider founded in 1993, which was merged to Symbio in 2010. Juha’s technical background is in real-time fault tolerant systems programming, and he is a long-time proponent of open source. Jussi has a Master’s degree in computer science in the University of Helsinki.

Elias Pietilä

Talk:How not to monetize 10 million downloads
Elias is the developer of some of the earliest iPhone hits from Finland – Pajatzo and Wooden Labyrinth 3D. 10 million downloads later he has co-founded Qvik Oy – a mobile development company – and joined a Finnish technology start-up Free Drop Innovations. Qvik has developed dozens of iPhone and Android apps and services on contract and has also published its own applications – such as the Qvik Sketch Pro that peaked #2 on the American iPad top seller list. At Free Drop Innovations Elias is heading the development of a social real-time golf scorekeeping application GameBook. FDI’s other investors include Anssi Vanjoki, Teemu Selänne and Mikko Ilonen.

Elias specializes in user interface design and implementation, and leads this development both at Qvik and FDI. He was awarded an Apple Design Award by Apple in 2009 for his game Wooden Labyrinth 3D.

Ville Heijari

Panel: Where is the money in mobile?

Ville Heijari is the Bird Whisperer at Rovio, the developer of Angry Birds. Ville leads the global media outreach of the number one mobile gaming phenomenon in the world. Before joining Rovio, Ville has been involved with some of the biggest players in the mobile space from the early noughties, designing user guidance, working with user experience design, and creating mobile content and services. Angry Birds is set to land on every feasible gaming platform, and the Bird Whisperer is at the epicenter of the most exciting entertainment franchise ever born in the mobile domain!

Tuomas Rinta manages the development of Applifier’s cross-promotion network and thinks about new ways to help game publishers promote their applications on different platforms. For fun, he occasionally writes software for Android phones.
